It’s finally spring and the bulbs we planted in the 96th Street planter are blooming! More landscaping to add to what we did last year is on its way–and the beautiful plants will be watered with the water tank that we purchased with your donations.
Latin Beat On the Esplanade was a terrific success! So many bikers, runners, strollers, kids and adults enjoyed the awesome Latin music and super yummy meltbakery ice cream sandwiches! Thanks to all for stopping by . . .

We love the Esplanade and we know you do too! We also know the Esplanade needs some TLC. Our dream is to repair the pathways and piers, beautify the gardens and adjoining areas, and make the East River Esplanade the beautiful destination and cultural gem we know it can be. Join us!
This Sunday, May 18, we will be at 103rd St. and The Esplanade (at the base of the footbridge) with Mariachi music and dancers at noon sent over by our friends at the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, as well as a small art project to get you and the kids in the art-loving mood! Follow the music to the Randall’s Island side of the bridge for the fabulous FLOW.14 art festival:
We’ll also be gardening and cleaning up at the tulip-filled planter that we’ve been caring for on 96th St. on the Esplanade. We’ll have lots of terrific volunteer opportunities. If you’d like to volunteer, please let us know: EastRiverEsplanade@gmail.com
This summer Friends of the East River Esplanade partnered with public art organization The West Harlem Art Fund to bring an exciting temporary light show to the Esplanade. See the pre-event link below. We are working hard on converting the FANTASTIC images of light art on the Esplanade into a banner that will hang on the fence at 116th Street starting next spring.
