EsplanadeFriends has so much exciting news to share!

It's finally spring and the hundreds of bulbs we planted in the 96th Street planter should bloom soon! Then professional landscaping that should wow you will follow in keep a lookout.

But...Simple as it may sound, while there is water water everywhere near The Esplanade, there is not a drop for irrigating our plantings and landscaping. But you might change that. If you live in City Council District 5, you can go online and vote for $1 million for irrigation for the East River Esplanade from 90th-96th streets! This Participatory Budget voting ends this Sunday, April 2 so please vote today. It will only take a minute or two--but could transform The Esplanade into a greener space for a long time to come...Click HERE to participate, and follow the online instructions. Anyone 14 years-old and above who lives in the district can participate in this specific vote (There are also many other important, worthy projects and participating Council Districts.)

Friends Of The East River Esplanade (60th-120th Streets), Inc.

Persistent Advocation for the Esplanade's Esplanade

EsplanadeFriends continues to advocate for repair of The Esplanade's holes and crumbling infrastructure and for the state-of-the art Pier107 that our communities deserve. We attend task forces, rezoning sessions,  and community board meetings. We communicate with NYC Parks on a regular basis. Behind-the-scenes, we advocate for better lighting and for The Esplanade's inclusion in the 311 system...The list goes on...

Kenny Scharf on the Esplanade

Last summer, EsplanadeFriends brought the inimitable Kenny Scharf to The Esplanade in East Harlem. Though the banner he designed just for our waterfront was stolen (twice!), the TotemOh column he painted remains. Of note, NYC Parks is working to repair this damaged and dangerous site...

Our Alliances

EsplanadeFriends works hard to ally with other community groups in East Harlem, Yorkville and the Upper East Side. The East Harlem El Barrio Fishing Committee is an important voice in our organization. And our GreenParkGardenersNYC Committee does amazing volunteer planting at the southern end of The Esplanade; this spring they will put in many plants and flowers purchased with YOUR donations. Thank You!
