EsplanadeFriends has so much exciting news to share!
Our mission is to beautify, improve, and ReInvent the waterfront from 60th – 120th Streets. As part of our mission, we aim to bring you spectacular public art. In June, 2016, EsplanadeFriends installed internationally renowned artist Kenny Scharf’s NEVERENDINGOGO, a fantastic mural banner commissioned just for the East Harlem waterfront at 116th St! The banner is accompanied by a permanent colorful mural of faces painted by Kenny Scharf on an idle brick column formerly covered by graffiti; this work is titled TotemOh.

As many of you know, the NEVERENDINGGOGO banner was stolen over the weekend of June 25-26, 2016. EsplanadeFriends is currently reprinting the banner, and the reinstallation is tentatively planned for early July, 2016.
In other news, we are thrilled that Pier107 has received funding commitments from the State and the City! The EsplanadeFriends-commissioned vision by JACOBSCHANGARCHITECTURE was featured in the spring of 2016 as a potential design in a DNAinfo article announcing an additional $1 million in NY State funding for the dilapidated pier’s reinvention.
